Matt puts his feet up and reflects on his year and win in the USA.

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

I have just arrived home after missing the cut at the Australian Open. It was not the way I was supposed to finish the year, but in this game you don’t always get what you expect. After  my most hectic year travelling and playing, I came to realise this even more. You never know what is around the corner in this game from one week to the next. I would have never expected to win a USA Gateway Tour event by 8 shots then almost win the Tour Championships. When it all comes together you feel like you can achieve anything. When I shot an equal course record on day 2 of the Desert Mountain event, then beat it day 3, then equalled it day four, it took a while to sink in how well I played for that week. 69-65-64-64 = 25 under (8 shot winning margin) - it’s not very often that you win in this game so when I won the way i did I needed to make the most of it and give myself lots of credit for achieving it.  There were some mixed results since then, but I have certainly realised the importance of preparation and keeping yourself fresh for the Australian Summer, which I hope to do next year.  I will sit back this summer while taking a well earned break and and look to the Gateway result as the pinnacle of my year in 2007. I will plan my year for the upcoming 2008 season and attempt to acheive bigger and better results than 07.

Have a Merry christmas all.

Thanks for your support.

Ballard not happy with Aussie open start

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

After making the cut and finishing in a tie for 49th in last weeks Australian PGA at Hyatt coolum, I felt confident of playing even better this week at the Australian open. With  good preparation early in the week i felt like i could finish he summer of with a good result. however it was not to be. I shot my worst round of the year. plus 8. As strange as it seems, i drove the ball really well and you need to at this course. But my irons where not very good at all.
I missed a lot of greens and it put some pressure on my short game all day. Slowly but surely missing green after green built up a lot of momentum in the wrong direction and thus a terrible beginning to the Open. Tomorrow is another day and I will go out trying to go as low as i possibly can to squeeze into the weekend.

Matt finishes Tied 16th in New Zealand

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

After getting a start in both the Masters and NZ open, Matt missed the cut at the Masters but followed it up with a really solid tie for 16th in the NZ open in beautiful Queenstown last week.Shooting scores of 72-70-70-71.
On the back of this result, he has earned a start in both the two remaining events on the summer schedule, Australian PGA and Australian Open.

This has given matt the platform and momentum to have a a solid finish to what has been a successful year already.

Keep an eye out for matts results in the upcoming weeks.
